September has been designated as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month since 2008, to bring attention to what has become the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. In the state of Ohio, about five people each day die by suicide and it is the leading cause of death for youth aged 10-14.

It can scary to try and figure out what to say to someone when you think they might be having thoughts about suicide. The website BeThe1To is a great resource to learn how you can support someone who may be in crisis or struggling.
If YOU are someone who needs help, remember three simple numbers: 9-8-8.
The 988 Lifeline is free and provides confidential support to anyone who may need it 24/7. Launched by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in 2005, the 988 Lifeline works with partners at Behavioral Healthcare organizations who offer guidance and trainings to continually improve the services to communities across the country.
SPREAD THE WORD! 9-8-8
It may save someone's life.
