GCBHS Outreach Offering Help to Those Experiencing Homelessness

Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services' (GCBHS) outreach programs serve individuals in Hamilton and Clermont counties. Some teams provide support to people in recovery housing, or those going through probation or other court appointed programs. Some work with individuals coming out of the state prison system or who are currently in jail (Clermont CASC program).

We also have several teams whose focus is on people with mental illness and/ or a substance use disorder (SUD) who are experiencing homelessness. Teams like PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness), serve both counties by assisting people with mental illness who, in many cases, have no place to go. They build relationships that engender trust, encouraging people to sign up for services that will improve their lives.

We also have substance use disorder (SUD) outreach through our Break Free Cincinnati and CARE (Collaborations for Addictions, Recovery, & Engagement) teams in Hamilton County. CARE works out of St. Anthony Center in the heart of Over-the-Rhine. St. Anthony's is a collaborative of agencies all serving people experiencing homelessness.

Jamie was recently recognized by Catholic Charities as one of the Outstanding Caregivers of the Year.

Some of these teams are staffed with "peers." A peer is someone with lived experience so they can better relate to what the person is going through, whether it be a substance use disorder, mental illness or homelessness. You can read about Jamie (right) , a peer on the CARE team HERE.
