September is National Recovery Month - a time to celebrate those in recovery and offer support to those who have yet to begin their journey. Throughout the month we will share videos featuring some of our staff (and clients) who are in recovery and want to share their experiences with those who need help.
Beginning in 1989, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) began to recognize September as National Recovery Month. According to SAMHSA, the month " aims to increase public awareness surrounding mental health and addiction recovery."
Throughout the country, agencies dedicated to serving those who have a substance use disorder (SUD), use the month to educate people on the treatment that is available in their communities and that they are not alone - that there are people to help them every step of the way.
Which is why many of the videos we will be posting this month are done by our "peer" staff. These are professionals who have a lived experience with alcohol and/or substance use and can offer someone not yet in recovery the hope that they two can find the path to a healthy and rewarding life.
Remember... "Recovery is for Everyone! Every person. Every Family. Every Community."
