Mental Illness Law and Politics:

The Intersection Between Justice & Behavioral Health Care

WHAT:  Workshop featuring Pete Earley, Pulitzer Prize Nominated Author of "Crazy:  A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness".  Mr. Earley will recount the history of how we have treated person with Mental Disorders in the nation, and alternatives to the criminalization of persons with mental health problems.  This is based on his personal attempts to get treatment for his mentally ill son.  

 

This will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Ken Parker, Esq., Assistant U.S. Attorney.  The panel includes:

  • Diana McIntosh, PhD - Vice President of Clinical Services at the Hamilton County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board

  • Gary Bohnlein - Involved with the NAMI Family-to-Family Program

  • David Pepper - Vice President of Hamilton  County Board of Commissioners

  • Gail Hellmann, MD - Medical Director of Court Clinic Forensic Services

  • Judge Julia A. Stautberg - Municipal Court Judge and also presides over one of the Mental Health Dockets

  • Melissa Knopp, Esq.-Manager of the Specialized Dockets Section in the Judicial and Court Services Division of the Supreme Court of Ohio
